Just had the same problem with natty amd64.
I fixed it by rebuilding bluez:
# apt-get build-dep bluez
# apt-get source bluez
# cd bluez-*
# fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us
# cd ..
dpkg -i *.deb
Interestingly, the installation complained that I downgraded from
1:4.39-0ubuntu2 zu 4.91-0ubuntu1.
I do not think begging or asking here has any siginificant effect.
Adding such a feature is surely more than a little bug fix, so it is not
beyond the focus of the Ubuntu team or Canonical, but rather that of
upstream.
By the way, VPN connectivity is not necessarily part of any desktop OS

I tested the upstream kernel (2.6.36-rc3). When I enable cpuidle, the
kernel freezes on boot without a message. When I disable it, the system
runs fine.
Same for the Ubuntu -generic kernel: 2.6.35-17 (with
CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE=m) boots fine, 2.6.35-19 (with CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE=y)
freezes on boot.

I had a hard time finding out why extlinux (from the syslinux package)
did not like the images I generate with genext2fs. I finally found out
that genext2fs creates ext2 revision 0 filesystems (which seem to be
deprecated since Linux 1.2 or so).
By the way, I tried kernel 2.6.34-020634rc6-generic from kernel-ppa as
recommended somewhere in Bug #406515, but only the messages in the
kernel log go away, brightness is still not controllable. So it seems to
be a different issue.

I just tried it on my old laptop (Thinkpad T41p running lucid i386
updated a few minutes ago), with the same headset and the same mouse. On
lucid, it seems to work (not a single audio interruption for 5 minutes
now).
I don't think there will be a fix released for 9.10, so let's wait for

I just tried this under Windows Vista, same hardware. Here, there's no

Yes, this is still an issue. I am running Karmic amd64 on a Thinkpad
X200, and had ca. 100-200 "Rescheduling Interrupts" wakeups per second.
After booting with "acpi=noirq", these were reduced to ca. 10-20/s,
saving me another 0.5W of power consumption.
What negative side effects should I expect
On my karmic system, I could not find any cronjobs or large databases
related to librarian, so I do not consider it a problem. Scrollkeeper
ate my CPU once a week, but librarian/rarian-compat is well-behaved in
that matter so far.

I just tried this in karmic, and it works now as expected: The "Find"
dialog is a window on its own and can be accessed via Alt-Tab. IMHO this
could be marked as Fix Released.

Which version and which flavour of Ubuntu do you use? On my box (running
Ubuntu 9.10) I could not find any drop-down lists, your description
sounds like one of the previous Ubuntu versions' volume control
applications.

Yes, right-click + "safely remove" spins down the disk (and removes it
from the list), clicking the "Eject" icon does not.
After clicking the "Eject" icon, the volume stays in the list.
Afterwards, I can still right-click to "safely remove", which then spins
down the disk.

proposed), and I still see the problem. I click on an OpenVPN
connection, and the notification immediately pops up with a message that
the vpn service could not be started.

Yes, I just upgraded my work laptop to 9.10, and it's still there,
making the tsclient applet basically useless. As it seems to be only a
typo in a patch, and AFAIK no packages depend on tsclient, would't this
be a candidate for a SRU?

@Jari: Are you sure that your phone provides PAN support? AFAIK the
nokia phones with Symbian use the DUN profile, and provide a virtual
modem via bluetooth.
