@unggnu: I use the OpenVPN plugin on karmic i386 (including karmic- proposed), and I still see the problem. I click on an OpenVPN connection, and the notification immediately pops up with a message that the vpn service could not be started.
Sometimes it helps to try again several times, or to try again after a few minutes. Then the connection works fine.
