The intel/nvidia have a different chassis/hardware and thus different bios than
the amd/ati DV5.
Because on the Intel/Nvidia, the suspend never worked, with proprietary drivers
or not (Nvidia).
The only hope i can see is from HP and a new bios, like for the DV7 and
apparently also some DV4 that
Too bad, i remember reading something about the same issues, black
screen with only mouse working that should be solved by upgarding to one
of this beta drivers. Sadly I can't find it back now, althought it
wasn't specific to hp dv5 pavilion series, more to nvidia IIRC.

Switching to ttyx or killing X gave this error message in a loop:

Just done the upgrade from the 2.6.22-14 kernel and everything went
fine, no hang at locales.
Only little thing was kernel 2.6.22-15 got removed, so there's only the
new 2.6.24-19 and old 2.6.22-14 kernel now. But this is really minor, i
don't think anyone intend to run hardy with kernel 2.6.22-15
Someone mentioned doing the upgrade from the 2.6.22-14 kernel instead of
the -15, can anyone confirm this worked?

Thanks for your help Peter, that command was very useful.
However something must have fail somewhere because it boot in low res mode each
time (vesa). I can't switch to intel as it doesn't seem to recognize the driver.
Since it's mainly a compiling issue i'll check it in the ubuntu forum.

Actually, i'm still running gutsy 7.10 so i had to compiled from the
sources. I successfully apply your patch to the "i830_video.c" file but
encounter some depedencies issues while compiling the xserver-xorg-
video-intel sources.

Same problem here, with totem-gstreamer and Xv output. I don't remember if it
was like that in the begining because i mainly use mplayer and vlc.
When I opened a video with totem, the video was black and white and corrupted
the others video players as well. Only solution was to reboot (don't reme
