Same problem here, with totem-gstreamer and Xv output. I don't remember if it
was like that in the begining because i mainly use mplayer and vlc.
When I opened a video with totem, the video was black and white and corrupted
the others video players as well. Only solution was to reboot (don't remember
if simply reloggin worked) and to never let totem-gstreamer touch anything
again.

I also confirme that Smplayer has the same problem, although Gnome mplayer,
Gmplayer and mplayer don't.
I didn't have xine installed but i plan to check totem-xine, gxine and xine-ui.

Now the video isn't black and white anymore but the colors are totally messed
up, contrast gamma saturation ect... probably due to an update, since i didn't
check how totem was doing for a long time.
Reloggin a new session return "desinfect" the sain players

Using X11 solve the problem, but only in apparence since it bring it own
issues. Too much cpu load cause me some laggs, flickering and audio and
video are out of sync.
