I'm experiencing this problem on my Dell Inspiron 1520 with Intel and
nVidia 8400 too. I've used Envy to update to the latest driver from
nVidia and the problem still exists. I ran for a long time without
restricted driver and the problem existed then too.

I can confirm Hibernate works properly after updating the drivers too.
There will be much rejoicing and suspending and hibernating.

Yes! The new drivers installed via Envy allow me to use suspend to
RAM. Thank you :) I haven't tested hibernate yet, but that's next on

nvidia restricted drivers, the system never turns off when told to
hibernate. the screen turns off and the system is unusable. i have to

When I disable them and now remove the "quiet splash" it completes loading
the resume data file 100%.
This is probably a different problem, but it won't suspend to disk when I'm
using the nvidia restricted drivers. That's made it not fun trying to
troubleshoot it. I'm going to try again and see wh

I noticed Dell released an updated BIOS as of 12/25/2007 for my system.
I'm unable to download it from their site, with the report of error 425.
once i'm able to install the update, i'll report any differences here. I
invite others with this problem to attempt the bios update and please
report here

Ok, yes, I was able to install Hardy just fine as long as /etc wasn't in
it's own partition. I think the priority should be adjusted on this. I
feel it's important for the install program to not permit the user to
