The solution worked, I'm now running Ubuntu 14.04.

I'm pretty green, so I really couldn't say what the problem is -once the
new software channels have been set, I keep getting the following error
message:
Could not determine the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
This can be caused by:
I don't know how to change tags, and if I can at all. But the bug does,
after all, not appear to be in Unity at all, but in Gallium 0.4 on NV86
. I installed the Nvidia 137 drivers, and the problem seems to have
disappeared. No more artifacts, no more rests hanging about on the
desktop after playin
I've checked with the Gnome Fallback and HD video. The same happened:
The screen went weird. Thus, the problem appears to be rather with the
graphics driver, => Gallium 0.4 on NV86 .

The video thing hasn't happened again, but I only opened and closed one
*.flv and one *.avi file with the Movie Player and didn't watch them
full time, which is what I did last time the movie problem came up
(25-min, 169M cartoon clip). I've just opened the Dash again, and now
it's all-white, with

I've just upgraded my Toshiba Tecra 2.4 GHz laptop with NVidia chipset
to Ubuntu 13.04, and I've been experiencing a number of graphics issues
since:
-> Dash background: Unless I don't open anything before my first access
to the Dash, the background of the same becomes messy
