The video thing hasn't happened again, but I only opened and closed one *.flv and one *.avi file with the Movie Player and didn't watch them full time, which is what I did last time the movie problem came up (25-min, 169M cartoon clip). I've just opened the Dash again, and now it's all-white, with the icons and their legends garbled in pretty much the way it looks in Screenshot_1. Robert Roth (evfool) seems to be right attributing this to unity: I got myself Gnome, and there were no artifacts at all. Back to Unity, they reappeared. This is not happening on my desktop machine, where I also have an Nvidia graphics card.
