I am having this problem as well with 046d:08d8 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam
for Notebook Deluxe. The image is black and white colored horizontal
lines on occasion and some other distortion. It only occurs when using
gstreamer (Cheese) and with Skype. VLC works just fine.

installed. 2.6.31-20-generic #58-Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 is the

I can confirm that this is the case. The output from "date" reads:
Sat Aug 22 11:31:48 EEST 2009
The time is actually 10:31:48 presently but the timezone is correctly
indicated here as EEST.
This is also a bug problem in Debian Lenny/Stable, FYI.

I can confirm that deselecting "Show Seconds" under the "General" tab
for the clock applet brings back the tooltip for both the weather icon
and the time (to show the date) when on the panel and expanded (after
clicking the applet to show the calendar and locations). This behavior
changes immediate

Following up on my last post, I was able to manually install GRUB and
uninstall LILO with no ill-effect on the above-mentioned configuration.
So, the problem isn't in the setup or with GRUB, but something going on
during the install, at least in this case.
Where do logs from installs end up? It mi
1 250GB SATA drive. Installing Ubuntu 8.04 Beta Alternate 64bit with
drive formatted using encrypted LVM. Installation crash (red screen box
warning), GRUB would not install. Installed LILO instead.
This might be a serious problem for any user not realizing that they
have an option of installing a
