As I've written above, I've got the same problem as the initial bug
filer, ddemchuk.
I would like to add some more info on this.
Next time when I rebooted my compyter and selected 'Ubuntu, kernel
2.6.17-11-generic' (must have been added during upgrade - note: I've got
an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processo
The error message says: "Please report this bug against the 'update-
manager' package"

I realised that this bug was filed against the wrong package, since it
says in the error message: "Please report this bug against the 'update-
manager' package"
I changed affected package from gmediaserver to update-manager.

My goal was to upgrade from 6.06 to 7.04. Using kubuntu amd64-version.
I started on kubuntu 6.06
upgraded to 6.10 with the command
gksu "update-manager -c"
had to install python-vte to get it working
sudo apt-get install python-vte
