Actually it's not a bug, the problem is, that in order for the smbldap-
tools to work properly, they must be configured. During the installation
the config dir /etc/smbldap-tools is generated, but it is empty.
Once you copy the example config files smbldap.conf.gz (has to be
gunzipped) and smbldap
I get exactly the same problem, right after I login with a LDAP user on
Edgy via SSH. Changing file permissions to 644 on /etc/libnss_ldap.conf
solved the problem for me as well. Thanks for the hint! On my Feisty box
it has also the 644 permissions.

I can confirm this (with the latest available release for edgy) as well
and I really think, that it is a serious bug. I mean what's the point in
querying the BASE with debconf, if it is not put into use?
