I was getting this same problem trying to copy an audio CD.
Installing cdrdao fixed it for me.
On the video side, I've seen people saying that installing css support fixed
for them.
Brasero should depend on these packages if intends to support
audio/video CDs.

I'm having this same issue. But I've noticed that the problem is not
when opening from nautilus, but when opening a movie with a subtitle AND
having "auto load subtitles" option set.
Disabling this option make it work like a charm. And loading the subs
after the movie is loaded also works.

A feedback some time latter... for me it was just a coincidence between my
battery dying and the installation of Jaunty :)
I changed my battery and everything was ubber. So, no issue in this area for

I'm experiecing a similar behavior.
When I had intrepid my battery lasted, at least, 3 to four hours (Dell Vostro
1000, 9 cell battery), with Jaunty I'm experiencing the same 10-20 minutos
battery life as Joe.
I've tried running powertop and using it recomendations but that didn't seen to
help.

After using a custom kernel, I noticed that whenver I disable b43legacy the b44
driver loads just fine.
When b43legay is enable at compile time b44 can't be loaded automaticaly. Note
that I don't even load b43legacy, this happens just by compiling it.

I disabled HPET in my BIOS and everything works like a charm, without the need
of aditional kernel parameters.
I know that from the POV of the kernel disabling in the BIOS is "the same" as
hpet=disable, but I just wanted to post this experiment :)

Recently I've reviewed this problem and it looks like my initial assumption was
wrong.
I've configure the wl driver to load it as wlan, so it would not conflict with
eth0.
But eth0 is still not present after boot.

Well, actually i MIGHT have found the solution of this problem, or better, the
cause.
On my system suspend/resume doesn't work, so some times I try to see if this is
fixed and, when resuming, the system hangs, and the only solution is a hard
reboot.

I just wanted to say something I've noticed earlier, about this issue: when the
video module is loaded I can echo some values to
/proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness, and change the brightness of my screen.
Below is the contents of this file:

Well... not completely anyway... it fixed the issue with multiple updates
after pressing Fn+Arrow, but didn't change my brightness.
Also, it got rid of my /proc/acpi/video directory (duhhh), so i couldn't even

Just to let you know, my problem got solved after moving from OpenJDK to Sun's
JRE.
After installing sun-java6-plugin and updating xulrunner-1.9-javaplugin.so
alternative my access to the Banco do Brasil web site works like a charm.
Also, this happened after the last xulrunner upgrade
