More info on this one.
After using a custom kernel, I noticed that whenver I disable b43legacy the b44 
driver loads just fine.
When b43legay is enable at compile time b44 can't be loaded automaticaly. Note 
that I don't even load b43legacy, this happens just by compiling it.

I think this might be related to the ssb module. I've noticed that when
b43legacy is compiled, and I load b44 by hand it doesn't build ssb
(which is needed by b44). Maybe b43legacy is incompatible with ssb and
hence the problem?
