Yes -- in my case, I am trying to disable bitmap fonts in Firefox and
Thunderbird so that Microsoft standard fonts like Calibri display

You can change your grub configuration to either boot an older kernel by
default, or to add randomize_kstack_offset=off to the kernel command line (see
comment #85).

That's right, it was a fix for a Virtualbox error that arose when kernel stack
randomization was first introduced in the 5.13 kernel.
My speculation was that it might have been a similar issue, and if so, its fix
might give a clue to a way to fix the current issue in Virtualbox.

Virtualbox (and only Virtualbox), then it suggests perhaps Virtualbox
