After upgrading to xenial. Some errors occurred and after several
iteration of apt-get check, -f install, updage, upgrade, ... apt-get
tells me my system is up to date and no errors but... My unity is down.
I have no right panel, no window borders... just the background image.
I have Ubuntu 11.04, libv4l 0.8.3-1, and the "CrystalEye" webcam
attached to my aspireone.

Cannot reproduce anymore. I opened VLC, Preferences, changed Audio
Output module from ALSA to Pulseaudio, and sound files play just fine. I
have 1.1.9-1ubuntu1.3.

libv4l and my webcam have crashed gstreamer-properties, cheese, and
skype.
Gstreamer-properties crashes with this:
(gstreamer-properties:2972): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: Failed to deactivate
pad v4l2src5:src, very bad.
Subsequent attempts to use the webcam show this:

I have this problem, too. In short, selecting PulseAudio from the Audio
Preferences gives me scratchy, static-y, awful sound. Selecting Alsa
gives me normal sound.
I tried RĂ©mi's commands, and VLC still sounded awful.

But now the screensaver asks for password even if I uncheck the "Lock up
desktop" option in Power Management.

After two days of irregularly switching between two logged-in users (no
log-outs), the bug reared its head on another user switch.
So, the bug's not exclusive to having a second user log out. It's just

Same problem with Lucid Beta in Acer Aspire One 532h. Neither gnome-
sound-recorder nor skype work out of the box. But they both work with
the following command:

I have this problem, too. All I can think of adding is that it only
happens when you are trying to return to the first user that logged in,
and it doesn't matter which user it is.
I've set identical permissions to two users, and have done the
following:
Log into userA; switch to userB; wait on B;
Affects me, too. AOA110, karmic, ext2 in a single partition of the 8 GB
SSD. Thanks!
