I have this problem, too. All I can think of adding is that it only happens when you are trying to return to the first user that logged in, and it doesn't matter which user it is.
I've set identical permissions to two users, and have done the following: Log into userA; switch to userB; wait on B; log out userB; blank screen. I repeated that swapping the users, and got the same result. Log into userB; switch to userA; switch back to userB right away (this works fine); wait on B; log out user B; I get to the user login screen as per normal function.
