I don't think Audacity's ffmpeg support has anything to do with this
bug, because it shows up with a version that I custom-compiled with
ffmpeg support as well. A workaround is to symbolically link the
/usr/lib/ladspa folder into /usr/share/audacity:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/ladspa /usr/share/audacity/
I'm already running with the 2.58 ever since i upgraded to 14.04 four
weeks ago. BTW: Given that the problem also appeared on quite different
hardware (bug 1107150) i doubt that it has anything to do with BIOS.

I re-installed on the same partition, formatting it this time. The installation
finished with no errors.
Now I will try re-installing it on this same partition, without formatting.
This means trying to install 14.04 over 14.04.

Just installed and have been testing this kernal. My only issue is that
the touchpad is not disabled when I flip my screen so I get erratic
pointer behavior due to the back of the screen activating the touchpad.
I have a Dell XPS 12 9Q33 and am running 14.04.

I upgraded VLC to the version from the security-proposed PPA. It tested
it with various kinds of videos without problems.
