I think the user who submitted this bug is unaware of the ieee()
function.
Use ieee(0) to make division by zero an error.
Use ieee(1) to be warned when dividing by zero.
Use ieee(2) to silently allow division by zero.
If division by zero is not an error x/0 yeilds:

%inf if x>0

I ran into the same problem on my DELL laptop (64-bit Jaunty) after it
"froze" last night and I had to force shutdown. In any case, I ran:
sudo update-apt-xapian-index
and the problem appears to be fixed - Synaptic works once again.

Are you sure that torrents aren't added? By default when new torrent is
added list of torrents isn't scrolled up so you may miss it. When
transmission is restarted the list is scrolled to the top so you see the
torrent. I have tried with both transmission 1.51-0ubuntu3 and
transmission 1.70-0ubuntu
Then it appears to be fixed in beta2, which we have now. :)

Gparted starts very very slow and "buggy"

I have the same exact issue. I mp3s duration is unknown and seek cursor
is disabled. The same mp3 files played on totem shows the same
behaviour. All files are local and some mp3 doesn't have any problems.
Ogg files plays ok. I tried to play these files on VLC and Amarok and
they play fine.
