Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

Simple as the summary, hal dies on startup, causing all keyboard and mouse
input to be ignored once X starts up. Running ubuntu in recovery mode allows
full access to the terminal prompt, where the keyboard works, but trying to
start up hal with: "/etc/init.d/hal" is unsuccessful.
Along with that, trying to reinstall hal with "apt-get --reinstall install hal"
does not get rid of the problem. Help would be much appreciated as my ubuntu
computer is unusable because of this.

** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
