Thanks to those that replied to this query.
At this point we think we have it pinned down to either some
ssl-unclean-shutdown related directives that were in our old apache config
for this site that didn't make it into the new one or unexpected results
from some rewrites we are doing in the htacce
that
safe_mode imposes, and they required a few simple modifications to the
server and the squirrelmail code itself. None were difficult but I'm
posting them here for users who might not be as experienced with using
PHP. My approach was a bit of a kludge but it works well.

Is anyone running SM with mysql 5?
We are are currently using mysql to store our user preferences and address
books and are about to upgrade from mysql 4.1 to mysql 5. I have a
concern about the new reserved word 'label' that is part of mysql 5
because there is a column named 'label' that the
SM package.
Being able to set the column names would probably be a good alternative.

Is it possible to have SquirrelSpell maintain its user dictionaries in SQL
instead of in flat files? We use a db backend for both our address books
and user prefs and would like to use a db for the dictionaries as well

Regarding POP3 and IMAP mixed.
We are using SM and if people check their mail using the web
interface, the messages they display will then not be downloaded to
their POP3 clients when they check their mail with the client.
Making everything IMAP is not an option in this case. The only

Has anyone seen the fetchmail plugin hog the cpu with HTTP? I tried to
retrieve messages today from an external pop source and it sat there just
saying "Retrieving message 1"
and the webserver shot up to like 95% CPU and just stayed there until I
restarted it.

I could do that... except that that doesn't sync them. To have 2
machines doing load balancing they need to be able to sync up their files
every now and then.. I don't know.. maybe it's not possible to do without
a backend.

issue and commented out the sqcookie_destroy in login.php
Now it works it wasn' thappening everywhere to me though just on a few
computers running IE... is this maybe an IE bug?It seems to work fine

an IMAP server issue? Which version of IMAP should I be running? I'm

We're using Cyrus IMAP with webcyradm, and using the unixhierarchysep
which creates users mailboxes with user account names and creates the
mail directory like joeuser^yourdomain^com. It replaces the "." with
"^". So if

virtual domain setup, or just change the from address. If it's the former,

need to restart your IMAP server. You will need to provide more
information regarding your setup if you want an answer. What platform are
you on? What is your IMAP server? What is your MTA? What version of SM are

set up. Squirrelmail is just sending the login information to the IMAP
server as [EMAIL PROTECTED] However, out of the box, no MTA or IMAP server
is configured to handle virtual domains/users. That's where it gets
complicated.

I'm having a SPAM related problem with SquirrelMail. It seems that the
Message ID of email being sent from SquirrelMail has a msgid with the IP
address of the sender encoded into it. Is this necessary? Can it be
configured?
SpamAssassin is parsing this ip address and classifying message

It does sound like a cookie problem (the IMAP transaction is fine), I
