Are you talking about the bios cacheable video memory (If it's that I've just 8M)? Whereas in Xfree86 conf I put the real memory size of the chipset (64M).

If you managed to get in and reconfigure it, then it's moot :o)
If you're using XFree86 4
Cheers, Bill.
I have it back now. But is it the XF86Config-4 or the XF86Config file
that's important here? They both changed when I ran X configurator.

Got it, thanks!
It seems I'd only set up one res configuration, so ctr-alt + didn't do
anything.

Or just boot with "linux 3" to avoid going into graphical login,
then follow the second step below from the console.

Hi all,
For reasons I won't bore you with, I temporarily have a different (less
capable) monitor on my RH7.2 system. Foolishly, I swapped the monitor
without checking it still worked, and now I can't get a raster because the
temporary monitor can't handle the refresh frequency. (Running as a s

Hi,
I don't have any experience with the G400. But I thought Matrox cards
worked really well with Linux. We have several machines here with
Millennium IIs and G200s, and they work great. In fact, I remember a
few years ago when the G400 came out, I read an article on the Internet
about how goo

Did you install Red Hat 7.2 fresh on this machine? If so, XFree86 4 was
installed, and the configuration file you're using is
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4. You really don't need 32 bpp color depth. 24
bpp will give you 16 million colors which should be fine for most
applications. The only thing I see
In /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 I found:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Matrox Millennium G400"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth24
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768"

Have you checked the mode lines in your /etc/X11/XF86Config or
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4? In the "Screen" section (near the bottom), you
should see stanzas like this:
Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768" "1280x1024"

Hi All People,
My AGP TNT graphic card has 16MB memory and my monitor supports upto 1600 x
1400 resolution (17")
My newly installed RH7.2 can only allow me to select 1024 x 768 resolution max.
Kindly advise how to reset Xwindow by using graphic mode in stead of
modifying XF86config file ?

Dynamic IP Hack
I have an RH7 Linux box into a large WinNT LAN.
All that WinNT servers gives me is a dynamic IP
address.
Before you can do anything else please save your
original /etc/hosts file.
This is how you can hack that IP and put it in your
/etc/hosts file.

Hello,
I finally setup my RH7 linux box onto
a large WinNT LAN. They just give me a dynamic IP
address.
Now I can ping and connect by name the WinNT computers
and they can also do the same thing to my computer
(samba & nss_wins).
I wrote a simple C program that hack the IP address
and put it into
