I'm running RH8 beta 1 (yes, I know I should upgrade to a real release)
and having problems with netatalk. File sharing works fine, but printer
sharing isn't. I've shared an SMB printer using the following line in
papd.conf:
bigblue:pr=bigblue
However, when a Mac tries to print to it, I get a "
Hi,
Now I'm seeing a different error message with printing. When I do

If I do "lpr ~/.bashrc", instead of printing the file, it says:

Hi,
I just tried upgrading a 7.2 machine to 8.0. The upgrade quit with a
message about X not able to ugprade. This message came up when I put in
the second 8.0 CD. The system then rebooted. /etc/redhat-release shows

appear with the text:
There was an error
Is it possible compiling the kernel could screw up the printer in some
way? I enabled parport printer support as module, was the only option I
saw. I noticed it's sending the job as if on a network, even though
it's configured as a local printer. Would network configurations in the
kernel have
This is a shot in the dark, but how about the perms on the directory? Would
that affect anything?

Ok, this is the output I get when restarting the printer deamon:
Starting lpd: Warning-'if' filter '/var/spool/lpd/filter does not have
executive perms.
Any ideas?
I've tried both
chmod -x filter and chmod 755 filter, both to no avail.
Possible a bug in 2.4.3? (What I'm running)
