I currently have RH Linux 8 installed with Samba ver 2.2.8a running on it.
I wish to print from Linux to an HP DeskJet printer connected to a

This device works fine (although sometimes tempermental) with LPR driver on
NT4 system pointed at LPT1:192.168.1.8 - it doesn't work (yet) with Linux.

I don't need the server to be able to print, just serve.
What do I have to do?

You can turn an old 486 into a good print server. You need 16 MB Ram to
do a RedHat 6.2 install and probably about a 200 MB drive. You can
add multiple parallel ports if you want more than one.
Now, if you want to do lpr printing, th
Me either, but I don' think it's a problem.
I just ordered one...I'm excited...
If it works out, I'm thinking of hooking both printers up to it, and
retiring the JetDirect in my LaserJet 4.

My recommendation (one I'm going to soon be following, myself) is to get

I'm hoping someone out there in Linux Land can advise me
on the proceedure to do so...

I think what he's after here is the auto-driver installation that you get
from a 9x or NT print server when you try to print to a printer that you
have not previously installed.
