Hi gang!
Trying to figure out if:
1) Oracle 8i client can be made to run on the new Enterprise
Server/Workstation family from RH (I know Oracle has certified them
for 9i), or
2) if a 9i client can be made to run on RH 8 or 9
or, for that matter, if
3) an 8i client can be made to work on 9

Hi,
I have been doing some research on setting up a Linux cluster to running an

Scalability and processing power. Has anyone out ther ever done something

While you can install 8.1.7 on 7.0, you cannot get a database to work
yet (glibc stuff). You will do better to install on 6.2 and you would
be MUCH better if you upgrade to at least 8.1.6. 8.1.5 is very buggy
and even under good circumstances does not run very good.

Marketing aside, there are a fair number of significant differences between
Oracle 8.0.5 and 8.1.5 (8i). And, BTW, 8.1.6 is being released for HP-UX,
Solaris, and Tru64, and is in development on other platforms (Linux, NT).

You got the CD because you joined the Redhat Developer Connection most likely.

The "i" means Internet ready. It's a bullshit marketing strategy.

I did not use the CD, I just downloaded the install from their FTP site
and burned my own (ah those cable modems!). I never read any of the
documentation. The Java installation made it seem almost exactly the same
as the NT installs that I had done previously. The only major problem
