yes it is possible.
boot using your boot floppy or installation CD (go into rescue mode)
and run:
/sbin/grub-install /dev/hda
(/dev/hda is your drive)

looks like that you are booting in runnlevel 5 and the X server could not start
correct.
Try
booting from disk or cd in rescue mode and edit your /etc/inittab. Change the
following line "runlevelid:5:initdefault:" to
"id:3:initdefault:"
Normally in rescuemode your harddrives
This problem is not restricted to RH 7.3. I have RH 7.2
machines exhibiting the same behaviour. Started happening
after the last kernel upgrade. I'll have to try turning
apm off.

to type info at the command prompt. It has instructions on how to use it,
