Hi all,
I used to be able to ftp into our development server, but can't all of a

I looked in the /etc/xinet.d/proftpd file and it says 'disable=no'. And
tried restarting /etc/init.d/xinetd, but nothing happened. And

Just downloaded the RPM for proftpd, and tried to install it:

I get a message back stating: proftpd is needed by proftp-1.2.5-1
Doesn't matter if I use the standalone or inetd, I get that same
message.

Hi all, first let me apologize for my 3rd post about ProFTPD. I know this is
a RH list, but there is a lot less flaming here :), and I think the problem
might be with my system too. Well, I'm running RH 7.0 on P3 450, 256Mb,
fully patched up :)
Anyways, I was wondering if any of you guy

Your easiest bet will be to try the ProFTPd site to see if they've
put together an RPM for RH7/xinetd.
Short of that, you can create /etc/xinetd.d/ftp, mimicking the
settings from inetd.conf, but placing them on the appropriate lines
in the file.

Sorry for the question, but how do you get proFTPd working with
xinetd.conf? I just moved from 6.2 to 7, and didn't realize the
difference.
Also, it looks like you have the choice to used either the xinetd.conf or
the old inetd.conf. Is there an actual benefit useing the xinetd.conf?

Anyone know where I can get the Proftpd rpm that is ready to work with the xinetd

I believe you want the DefaultRoot directive. Either check out the proftpd
web site at www.proftpd.net or you can go to my website at
www.stikman.com/proftpd for ProFTPD information.
