squid 3.3 would not function in a transparent proxy mode with my particular
set up. Installed squid 2.7 from package, was able to get it to work.

The following diff update py-test to 2.3.5. Tested with a handful of
ports that use this for TEST_DEPENDS.
There is a problem with py-paste's regression tests, but this was not a
problem introduced by this update.
