But, hmm. I think I was wrong about it, linux 3.12 showed always text at boot
about something, and 3.13 not, and I didn't wait too long it for boot, so I was
probably wrong. 3.13.0-4-generic booted normally after waiting a while on black
screen
After updating to Kubuntu 13.10 it got worse again, also the workaround
using "acpi_backlight=vendor" does not fully work: It allows controlling
the brightness via KDE's power-applet, but the function-keys (Fn+cursor
left or right) do not work at all (also "xev" does not report and
KeyPress event w

It seems this kernel version causes my Radeon HD 7950 to fail at the login
screen -- the monitor has video output until it gets to the login screen. The
previous version, 3.13.0-3-generic, which I am currently using, works fine.
