looks like something else is causing the problem.

Booting back into the previous kernel 4.15.0-33 gives the same behavior:
Desktop Sharing won't start.
Perhaps the system error happening shortly after the first attempt is

Colour bandind is visible everywhere in the system, and it appeared

Excellent, thank you. FYI, the actual application I'm using which
requires nbd is snf-image-creator.
I agree it makes sense to remove most modules relating to physical
hardware from the kvm kernel, but loopback and networking modules are
useful.

This is a clean install. I have tried this on 16.04 as well as 18.04
latest updated version and the issue still persists. Tried all options
provided on the net by adding acpi
Have the same issue on Xubuntu 18.04 on an intel J1900 machine with
Kingston SSD. We also have a similar machine with exactly the same
equipment but not having the Kingston SSDd running with no issues at
all, looks like the Kingston SSD seems to be causing some problem. Hope
ubuntu help us fix this
Tried the upstream header kernel `linux-headers-4.19.0-041900rc5`, which
wasn't being displayed as an option in grub's advanced menu. There was
no error after installing with `$ sudo dpkg -i lin...deb`, so assumed
upstream was installed.
To confirm the bug is due to 4.15.0-34, I rolled back to 4.1

I get the same on my 16.04 test server.
However, things seems to work fine, if I allocate enough memory, on my
test 18.04 server VM (which runs on the aforementioned 16.04 test
server).
