I found the net processes are actually calling 'net usershare info'
I inadvertently had usershares enabled in /etc/samba/smb.conf.

Deleting ~/.local/share/balooIndex* and restarting baloo is essentially the
same as
$ balooctl disable
$ balooctl enable
After that the database is rebuilt from the scratch.
