It might be better to use a persistent IMAP connections. With IDLE support
you can be informed of new deliveries as they occur. See "idled". You have to
look at the code though. You probably wouldn't get status changes though
is, but is better now. ufs is actually pretty good, but mainly
because BSD kernels cache so much vnode data, it does not matter if the
directory is hashed on disk or not.
And you always want "noatime" enabled on your Cyrus spool, no matter the
filesystem or OS, or version of Cyrus.

O bound anyways,
so you'd probably wouldn't get any additional performance for having more than

The issue really isn't the protocol used, but the fact that to make NFS fast,
it compromises the local file semantics a bit.
The BerkeleyDB documents have a good overview of this problem:

So I believe the original poster is right: XSan is crap for lots of
small files. That is not surprising. It is really hard to come up with
a shared file system that does suck. The nodes have to lock for
meta-data updates. So shared file systems can be pretty slow too.
Thanks. I figured if the single instance, bi-directional

be the fallback position. It's good to hear that someone

Am I doing something blatantly wrong?

hat, everything appears fine. Mind you, my upgrade was minor:
2.1.9 to 2.1.12.

I think this is the same problem that I once had with
version 2.1.11. in the timsieved/parser.c file in the tarball.
Download the updated file from the CVS and re-compile or
upgrade the whole package to v2.1.12. You can also search for
"strange sieve problem" in this list to get the whole thread.
Same problem here, but in my case it didn't help to restart sasl
or cyrus either ... (I'm not using pop3s either)
After changing the file "config.h.in":
#define DEV_RANDOM "/dev/random" to
#define DEV_RANDOM "/dev/urandom"
and rebuilt/reinstalled the SASL software, pop3 now seems OK.
[very strang

solution for everything from bad design, to poor management).

Is DB.php readable by your web server, and in a directory accessible by
your web server?
Tom

installed.
If I can contribute in any way, I will. Thank you for making this software
publicly available. I suspect it is far more popular than the developers
originally anticipated.

We are currently running Cyrus and and older version of stunnel on the
same system. Did you initally have both stunnel and Cyrus on the same
system, then separate them, or have they always been separate? Do you
have any info on the load generated by a stunnel process while an IMAP
session is being tunneled?
Thanks,

Is cyrus dependent on Berkeley DB or fairly easy to remove the
dependency or replace it with another DB?
Are there any other licensing issues for cyrus? I know about
the requirement for keeping and documenting the copyright notices.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

We are trying to fix the quota roots on one of our Cyrus servers.
Version is 1.5.X.
We are getting the following error :
quota: System I/O error Bad file number
I ran the "quota" command against each mailbox and it completed successfully.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom

t rebooted to start everything fresh. I am sure it would have worked if I
had just restarted sendmail and maybe master too.
I really want to thank you and all the people on this list for the help I
received. At one point I wasn't sure if I would ever get this thing working.
Many thanks,

I tried cyrusv2.mc, but I couldn't make it work. Now I am using cyrusproto.mc
which came with sendmail. I will take another stab at using cyrusv2.mc. I
couldn't see how to set my user:group to imap:imap. I think now that I have to
add U=imap:imap to the
(/usr/cyrus/bin/deliver) exited with
EX_TEMPFAIL
I guess it shows that sendmail is trying to pass mail to deliver and deliver is
exiting with an error. But I sure can't see why. Maybe you can make some
sense out of this.

I am using sendmail to pass the mail to cyrus imap. It is looking like only
about half the mail is actually getting through. Although I can't figure out
where it is going. First I listed deliver. Then the entire /usr/cyrus/bin
directory. What would setuid look like?
Thanks for the help,
