I have the same problem and I always thought it was the NVIDIA drivers
themselves.
Tried all the newer versions from "xorg-edgers", as well as the latest
upstream Linux kernels (4.x+) and none of it helped.

I ran strace against the Software Center's PID (5211) for a while
(twice, waiting a couple of minutes between the two traces). The output
is in the files strace_software_center.txt and

metadata.json seems to stop the default being changed to Yahoo (verified
after clearing browser.search.countryCode too).

I've been using it just fine on Xubuntu 14.04.x for quite a while now.
Make sure you've installed network-manager-openvpn and associated
packages and try again.

Is someone still working on this? I use Lubuntu 14.04. LTS and cannot
import an openvpn.ovpn file using the network manager. It says it cannot
read the "PPTP-configuration". Ist there any other way to generate a
openvpn-connection than importing a setup-file?

I haven't found out how to set XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP from mdm (Linux
Mint's fork of older gdm), so then when attempting to login to Gnome-
Shell I am greeted with a black screen. However, doing this is a
