I also had this bug. Then I reinstalled it and now it works normally. So

I just updated to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit and after doing so I have no sound.
I ran everything on the troubleshooting page

fixes from the Unbun

close the applet
click [VPN Connections} -> [Configure VPN]
