Seems to me to be a race condition. Sometimes booting the 3.16.0-8 level I get wallpaper, no panels. Sometimes unity actually starts like right now.
In any case, Xorg does not seem to have any problem. The screen is displaying if only wallpaper O.K., cursor O.K. Booted today's utopic .iso at 3.16.0-8, boots to wallpaper no unity panels. However the desktop icon for ubiquity is there, it does work. Installed O.K. except for the wallpaper only no panels. Ctrl-Alt-F1 I can try sudo unity. Gets a bunch of errors but I can't find any log with that data to be able to attach it here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1356683 Title: 2:2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu1 breaks 3d support on some intel hardware Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: With 2:2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu1 a normal boot produces a login where - black desktop background no unity panel a non-functional launcher nothing can be done If I boot to recovery > resume then do get an ubuntu session but using llvmpipe. ie. $ /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
