I've had a PPP server setup for quite some time using mgetty 1.1.18-1, and
it works great, BUT i just noticed today that it is doing no password
authentication. Any user/pw will work to login. Security isn't a huge
issue but i'd like to get it so i can track who logs in! AutoPPP is *on*

netscape's installer (untar the file, cd to the dir and run ./ns-install)

i for one love netscape. mainly for it's roaming abilities. i setup
mod_roaming on my main www server an can get my bookmarks and cookies and

real audio/video has a protection scheme, which lets the broadcaster
decide wether they want you to be able to record the stream or not. there

i may be wrong but i think the esound daemon does this, not though in the
way you say.
i believe, apps send the output of the audio to the daemon and the daemon
opens /dev/dsp and outputs it there. any number of apps can talk to the
daemon and the daemon can/will output sound from multiple source
i dont know but i've always used mke2fs to format a linux ext2 drive
i see mke2fs and mkfs.ext2 are 2 different binarys on my debian 2.1

DAC speed is related to the VIDEO card only. it just defines how fas the
video card can draw to the analog output at the specific refresh
rates(somewhere along those lines) it is different from the refresh rate
on the monitor. even if a videocard has a 350Mhz DAC it should still run

it may be easier to make a dos boot disk, and download ntfsdos
(www.ntinternals.com i believe) to recover the data. i havent seen a
(simple) boot disk rescue thing for linux to rescue NT. ntfsdos(read

you may not be able to get sound because there is not enough free memory
below 16MB for the dma buffer.
in more recent 2.2.x kernels you gotta enable the persistant DMA buffers
in sound config and it will reserve the memory at boot. it may not solve
this problem, but its an idea :)

you have to use redhat to use 2.2 ? i've been using slink since around
kernel 2.1.90 (used slackware before that). i heard redhat was crap, the
closest i've ever gotten to a 'redhat' system was linuxppc (which i
couldnt get installed). nothin stoppin you from running 2.2 on
slink. although i dem
fetchmail resends the mail through the local MTA. if your local SMTP
server is broken(try mailing yourself) then the mail won't get delievered.

check your ulimits (ulimit -a) i get that error because my ulimits are
quite strict and when i exceed the limits it prevents me from doing so and
pukes with that error. currently i have ulimit's for memory set at
24,000kB for virtual memory and 12,000kB for memory.

did u try to compile the NIC driver static into the kernel, i got 2
machines that use tulip(although on 2.0.36) and i try to avoid modules at
all costs. the only thing that get modularized for me are stuff thats 3rd
party and not included w/the kernel. if its a server, there are modules

connection refused means there is no firewall there on that
port/protocol. a properly firewalled port will time out when a connection
is attampted. as for IGMP i dont think that is even enabled in the kernel

sorta off subject but proftpd had some pretty serious security flaws in
it, and i dont think it would be advisable to use on a unprotected
system(non firewalled). those flaws were fixed but there are many more
potential problems as the base code has some severe security

partition magic 4.0 + will do it..can shrink that ntfs drive down..and
make an EXT2 drive ..of course pqmagic isn't free..

for the s3 virge the server would be XF86_S3V. what is the other card's
chipset?? might be best to try to yank out the other card, and use the
onboard S3 Virge, run XF86Setup, choose S3 Virge, set the resolution, and
the color depth .. click on done(i think thats the name of the button) it
