Hello,
Helping a friend here and she just wacked her active hard drive while
attempting to partition a second hard drive.
I need a WINDOWS utility to undo what Fdisk.exe just did and restore that
drive to what it was. drive was not formated afaict, so if a program
exists to restore that p

I had a very similar experience over this past weekend. I was

Henry,
Why did you install? I would thank that apt-get update/upgrade would
be the best so all your configurations remain...
Having said that, It sounds like a lilo oops. Will your rescue boot disk
pull it up? if so, you might want to clean the drive and when it's all
done, re-run lilo afte
Hi,
I'm kind of stumped over the dmesg size. I did a search on it and found some
are considering a patch to provide on the fly dmesg buffer size etc... What I
need to do is find the output of several onboard cards - video and sound. I
have found the driver for the video (go XF86Setup!) but s
Hi Brad,
Looks like you just need/want to edit the Message Of The Day (/etc/motd)
file.
Don't run gnome here - sri.

I have crashed my share of drives too. What I learned is that I get the
very best luck out of Western Digital. Of all the WD drives, I only killed
one - and that was purely my fault - 1500Watts of RF without benefit of
an RF ground = bad/evil/smoke producing things to computers :) Yet WD

Hi Cam,
That really sounds like it could be fun! Just thinking here, how to pull
off that ... How about using an 'at'command. give yourself 2 minutes to
change the kb, at will restart gpm then do it again 2 minutes later so
you can see if new stuff works, and if it doesn't gives you time to pl

I think the .kde dir still lives even if you compltely
remove kde with dselect.. SO, if you want a complete new install
with defualt values, might be a good idea following the removal to
do a locate kde and see what comes up. example:
locate kde | grep /home/yourusername | less

Steve,
You sound quite confused. Re-read your message to this list below.
Linux is a kernel, it's used in red hat, debian, and every other 'linux'

I am using kernel 2.2.17 and really like it. It's as secure as I make

Hello,
I wanted to include my 2 cents worth on this. Since you already found
avifile/aviplay then also look for his list server archives. I was subscribed
for a time and that developer was archiving ALL the players for linux and
trying to get co-development underway. It might produce some gre

This was pointed out on the debian-kde list. Run

Hi Philipp,
I generally use the 'make install remove'. It seems
to work well here for source I build locally. *tgz*
.deb files are pretty easy to handle. just read up on dpkg.
good luck.

Hi Glen,
I have used both. I really like the dpkg approach better then
the line/by/line approach. The way I look at it, is that I'm lucky
enough to be running debain and get to play with these killer tools :)
I never used the xconfig tool here. but make menuconfig has worked quite
well, and i
Hi Xucean,
I do a lot of my stuff in console mode (without
x running). I like having mouse to cut/paste stuff here
just like I do when I am using an editor under x. I set up
my systems x server to use gpmdata and have never had mouse
problems in either x or console.
just my 2 Cents worth.

Hello Hammack,
It's pretty easy to see problems here. Looking at your script, I see

Hello,
I installed bind 6 to 8 months ago to overcome some local problems which
it didn't. I just left it installed as it didn't hamper my ppp operations.
Today I removed bind since I was unable to access a local website. my dns
