Greetings Suraj: You don't specify what xfree version you are running, so I will assume you have Woody's x4.1. During the setup (using debconfig) it clearly asks whether your monitor is LCD or not. This *could* be part of your problem. I would suggest taking another look at it with: (as root) dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 That will start a the configuration program to help you get it all working, plus it will automatically modify your XF86Config-4 file.
