Any thoughts where to look? The root disk is an encrypted LUKS drive.
Could it be that the computer forgets the encryption key when closing
the lid?

You can put Debian in 4MB, but you have to work at it, and need another
PC as your Development Box. The days of installing the major distributions

Not enough memory?
As far as I remember you need at least 12M RAM.

Hi,
I bought an old Compaq Prolinea Net1/25s to use as a cheap
mailserver, and I'm having trouble at the very early debian install
phase. I'm planning to install via floppy and then ftp. I boot with the
rescue disk, with no obvious problem. At the "Insert root floppy" prompt,
I put in the root

Hello -
I'm having difficulties getting the root disk to
work.
I insert the rescue disk at boot up then it load
the kernel and asks for a root disk.
I insert the root disk and hit enter - when I do it
says "Compressed Image found at block 0"

Hi, can anyone help me with this one?
I'm having problems creating a dual boot and root floppies.
I use syslinux to create the /boot diskette, and it loads fine.
The problem is that when i insert the /root diskette with a
compressed file image, i get a VFS Error: can't mount root

So, I figure, I'll make a root disk that my boot disk can load as a ram

Great! thanks!!

The debian install disk has some of this functionality. It
prompts you when you first put it in about what you want to do. I think
after the kernel is loaded you have to switch to virtual console 2. I

Hi,
How can I make a bootable diskette that has a minimal root filesystem on
it (maybe just mount, cp, ps, e2fsck, /etc and probably no networking)??
I know how to make a bootable disk by copying the kernel and using rdev,
however I don't know how I'd place a root filesystem on the diskette.

Hello,
after completely destroying a system when trying to upgrade from
stable to unstable (libreadline anybody?) I have/want to re-install
it completely. I need a 2.0.32 kernel (actually the 2.4x NCR/Symbios
SCSI drives which handle the NVRAM on the 875 controller and the
UW IBM HD gracefully),
What does the root disk do these days? When I first installed 1.1
you used the boot, then the root, then the base disks. Last night
I did a fresh 1.2.0 install from some mid-December disks;
the root disk was never used.
Some other things I did notice; they've probably been fixed but

Hello!
I'm attempting to do a fresh Linux install using Debian 1.1.
Unfortunately, when I try to boot up with the disks I made, I
get a "crc error<5>" when I insert the root disk. I have
already tried re-downloading the boot and root disks from
ftp.debian.org and using fres
