You can put Debian in 4MB, but you have to work at it, and need another
PC as your Development Box.  The days of installing the major distributions
directly onto a 4MB box are _long_ gone.

There are others who have made low-RAM distributions, though.

Two other things: 
1. 80486sx.  All kernels nowadays assume that the FPU is built in.
   Been that way for ~5 years now.
2. How big is your hard disk?  Those same low-RAM distributions 
   are also small-disk.
