This may seem too simple but I used xcdroast in X. It found my ATAPI CDRW drive and gave me the access string which was ATAPI:0,0,0. I was then able to use that at the command line for cdrecord. Also, you may want to take a look at /usr/share/doc/cdrecord/README.ATAPI.setup. Joe

I have a DVD (hdc) and a CDRW (hdd) on a machine. The only defined mount is /cdrom, which is actually the DVD. In Redhat, I simply added append="hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" to lilo.conf, ran lilo and re-boot and both of them worked as did cdrecord. This does not work in Debian (2.
