That's surprising. I thought that since they were written by HP,
they'd be the same on both platforms.

I am aware of the drivers on SourceForge. However, they are not as

In my previous email, I used the Optra E312L printer as an example. For
Linux use, you probably want the Optra E312, not the E312L; the 'L'
version is PCL-only but the E312 supports postscript.
The E312 is $380 at buy.com:

Okay, here's my two cents on this topic.
Some printer are easier to get working under Linux than others.
PostScript printers should be very easy to get working, as the
Linux/UNIX world pretty much has standardized on PostScript. If you get
a non-PostScript printer, you need software on your

And my LJ2100M can print 1200dpi text at 10ppm. I'm sure mine cost
more, but it's a tradeoff. We need text. Lots of text, high-quality
text. We don't need color. So we chose a pr

Anything that speaks PCL really. I'm using an HP DeskJet 812C, and it
works perfectly with ghostscript for postscript conversion, using a filter

not any PC-compatible printer will do. There are some so called

there are some reports that some of these work with Linux. Lexm
If you get postscript compatible printer, life is much easy on Linux.
Otherwise, RTFM or use some printer configuration progran to set up
ghostscript filtering for your printer.

I have an HP LJ 6L which I'm very satisfied with. $400 or less for the
