What about IP Forwarding? On the client machine, do you have a default
gateway set? Do you have DHCP handing out your IP to the client machine
(I'm not too familiar with the PPP side, but more with the IP forwarding

I believe that your problem is that your ppp configuration uses /dev/modem,
and mgetty uses /dev/ttyS0.
My suggestion for you is to get rid of the /dev/modem stuff, as it is causing
problems with locking the devie (the modem). See mgetty's documentation for

Yep there is an pppd switch called login (it might be +login I can't
remember). Include that
I have seen modems that are used for fax not properly reset to data mode unless
power cycled. Once they get into fax mode, they tend to want to stay in
xon-xoff handshaking even after they are commanded to go back to data mode.

Nope... thats right. Make sure your init string (in mgetty.config I think)
