Hi!
I have a problem with aligning display on my PC. I hav currently 3
systems instaled : windows, debian 3.1 and 4.0 recenly came be. I set up

done by software and under windows it can't. Under 3.1 I've generated a

things I did above was the one responsible for fixing the breakage.
Now the problem is that X seems to ignore my modelines I need for my

Unfortunately, it has a very small NVRAM and can only store settings

I don't know why, but - on an old machine too - I had to correct
HorizSync and VertRefresh manually. The XFree documentation says that a
resolution does not work if it would exceed VertRefresh.
I asked the vendor homepage and the owner of the monitor and altered the

Hello,
I am trying to find a way to configure X so that my monitor performs at it's

I had a problem getting X-4 working with the modelines from X-3
until I changed them to the new format (man XF86Config). Below are
the relevant section that worked, after reading the man page.

Hi all,
I've calculated a modeline 1024x768x16 with a refresh rate at 100Hz, but
don't know where to put it in XF86Config-4. I've got only a standard
VESA Mode (1280x1024 or so at 86Hz). Some parts of my config file:

As far as I know Xfree4 is detecting this automatically (ddc). But - i.e.
when using a TV card, you can add your Modelines as usual.

with a 74Hz refresh rate.

My typical strategy for configuring X is to go through xf86config and then
try to start X many times deleting modelines from the XF86Config file when

Your problems with S3-based video cards and XFree86 may not be due to
misconfiguration. I have a S3 968 card, and though it worked well in
one of my machines, I could not get it to work in another one. I got
black screens only.
