I got it!
I got mad and just tried everything else… so I
rewrote my /etc/modules to:
sd_mod
sr_mod
loop
sg
ide-scsi
…see, it works(thought it should do so via the
modules.conf, had some/all of these in different orders…)!!!
Thank you all for your comments, I thought I couldn’t

Hi,
I work with a 2.4 kernel…
The following modules are loaded:
Module
Size Used by Not tainted
……..
sg
25180 0
loop
8440 0 (unused)
sr_mod

Hello,
the sg module is responsible for this device. So do you work with a
2.6.x kernel? Do you use udev or devfs?
Hi Christian,
what if you load the modules by hand (modprobe ide-scsi etc)? Any output?
What does the (pseudo) directory /proc/scsi contain?

hello Christian
Have you tried cdrecord with the 2.6 kernel. the scsi emulation is built into
the 2.6 kernel so there is no need the edit grub.
All so run dpkg-reconfig
Hi all,
I got the "common" problem that my CD-Writer won't work. (debian sarge, heise
c't server kernel)
System is equipped with a SCSI-Controller(P2B-S Onboard Adaptec), the CD-Writer
is connected on the primary master IDE Bus. The BIOS detects the driver, and it
has worked as a normal ide-dri

Hello Otto,
I don't know how much this will help, but these are the exact steps I
used to get my IDE CDRW working in debian... maybe you can run down
these step again and see whether you missed anything?
1) Add SCSI Emulation support by running 'modconf' and selecting the
'ide-scsi' module
2) Add

I knew I could read and write CD's on my system but I lost it during my
upgrades about a year ago. I remember when I switched the system I
couldn't write CD and I had documented the "hdd=ide-scsi". But after
changeing lilo.conf I can't read CD's anymore. So I looked into the
CD-Writing-Howto but it

I did almost the same thing on a system at work except I
forgot the Generic SCSI support. I had a system that looked like
it should work if you did the cat /proc/scsi/scsi tests, a

Thanks for the info, Bob!
I overlooked the SCSI cd support when I built my kernel.
It's working perfectly now.

Thanks for the info, Bob!
I overlooked the SCSI cd support when I built my kernel.
It's working perfectly now.

I used to compile ide-scsi as modules and had problems with the
CD-RW-Drive locking closed .
Since compiling the modules into the kernel, there have been no lock
problems.

Run
cdrecord -scanbus
And post the output of that command.
I just installed and burned a cd per the cd writing howto, but now I
can't find what to mount to read it.
It's not at scd0 or scsi0 and I'm not sure how to find it.
Does anyone know how to find it or see anything wrong with how I set
this up?
Thanks for any input,

I am running Debian bo (1.3). We have recently purchased a HP cd writer
(Model 7100i, IDE interface). The cd-writer howto and other related docs
talk of burning cd's, etc all give pointers to scsi drives. Can somebody
point me to or assist me in writing a cd through the ide interface drive?
