Speaking of this...

I had a kernel which was just missing the SCSI emulation modules.

Was there a way I could have _just_ built the modules I needed, and not
needed to rebuild the whole kernel?

Are there any modules that can work like that?

I overlooked the SCSI cd support when I built my kernel.
