Hi all, I got the "common" problem that my CD-Writer won't work. (debian sarge, heise c't server kernel) System is equipped with a SCSI-Controller(P2B-S Onboard Adaptec), the CD-Writer is connected on the primary master IDE Bus. The BIOS detects the driver, and it has worked as a normal ide-drive. So I changed the common things: Grub: menu.lst += hda=ide-scsi (tried also with hda=scsi) under /etc/modutils I created a file named cdr and appended it to modules.conf with update-modules. Content: # Modules for the CD-Writer options ide-cd ignore=hda alias scd0 sr_mod pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi pre-install sr_mod modprobe ide-scsi pre-install ide-scsi modprobe ide-cd alias block-major-11 sr_mod alias char-major-21 sg ...so, at boot time I get a: kernel: scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.36 ....... kernel: scsi1 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices
...but thats it. cdrecord -scanbus only outputs the "real" SCSI devices, If I try with cdrecord -prcap, I get the output: scsidev: '1,5,0' scsibus: 1 target: 5 lun: 0 Linux sg driver version: 3.1.25 cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg5'. Cannot open SCSI driver. ...I have no /dev/pg* devices :( - and I also get this output if I don't add anything of the modules/loader- addons. If I try all this without the ide-scsi sh..., e.g.:cdrecord -dev=ATAPI:1,5,0 -scanbus ...I get scsibus0: 0,0,0 0) 'LITE-ON ' 'LTR-16102B ' 'OS05' Removable CD-ROM ...which whon't work for writing: SCSI buffer size: 64512 atapi: -1 cdrecord: Cannot do inquiry for CD/DVD-Recorder. cdrecord: Input/output error. test unit ready: scsi sendcmd: fatal error CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00 Any hints appreciated!!!
