Just wanted to try apache. Installed it. When I try to access
my server thru lynx localhost, it says " you dont have permissions
to access in this server". How do I enable permissions?
Note that I have no experience in running servers. Just experimenting.
I want to shorten my 1 Gig root partition. To around 300-400 MB.
Without losing data. I mean, just want to resize the partition.
What software should I use?

Other distros like Suse/Redhat have a good looking boot up. Each process
is started with a colorful "done/ok" message at the right end. Is it possible
to make debian do so? May be some hacking is needed, I guess. Point the files,
please.

I want a insmod command to beperformed during booting. In which file should
I put it up? SHould I write a new script, and put it in /etc/init.d?
But I don't know how to implement the start/stop functions?
Help.

When firing startx, X comesup, then in 2-3 secs windowmaker pops up,
and then it takes a good 10-15 seconds for gnome panel to pop up. The doubt
is, there is no disk activity at the interval. Why the delay, and can I
speed it up a bit?

Regards,

I changed the permissions, added user to group audio, et al.
Now, when I use 'play ' command, the file is played perfectly.
But 'mpg123 ' says no sample rate found, and gmix says no mixer
found. When i do 'cat > /dev/dsp or /dev/audio', the speakers give
a "korr" sound and nothing more.
I am a dialup internet user. While I was using SuSE, i had complete control
over sendmail. I used to run 'sendmail -q -v' to see the mails being sent
to my isp's server using smarthost.
Now, with exim, I run 'runq -v', and all exim says is a pid number, and exits.
How do I make exim more verbose,
After a long struggle for a month, I finally managed to get X up
under Debian. I have a i810 m/b. Now a problem: Sound isn't working.
mpg123, gmp3 say mixer can't be opened. But 'lsmod' shows all required
modules neatly loaded. Help please.
