I think what you really need is fetchmail and procmail I am afraid. But
not to worry a basic setup is not too difficult.
Fetchmail
To get your mail from a pop3 account create a .fetchmailrc in your home

So long as you have some free disk space to creat a couple of new

This is getting stranger. I have simplified my preferences so it looks

Hi
I have just installed Woody from scratch and want to get some packaged

prefernces to pin the machine to Woody but if I do a an apt-get -s to

There is tkdict which should be able to look like a NextStep app if
you use some of the tk tweaks.

Meta is mapped to the Windows key (the one with a MS flying windows

issue where the Alt key is used for Window Cylcing (Alt TAB).

I am running Woody and have got AA fonts working fine in Gnome with

most of my GTK apps (including control center and gedit) still run as

Hi
I have noticed something starnge about my Woody system. I have to
maintain a hosts file due to some firewall and external DNS weirdness
for some of the hosts in the office. If I ping them then they resolve
via the hosts file but applications like telnet and postfix seem to be
using DNS (thus ge
chucked on there to manage it. Nice product, no
reason why you couldn't do the same thing with Debian but he whole
point of IPcop is that its quick and easy to setup even if you know
nothing at all about Linux.

I am running a Woody system and cannot get Alt to work as Meta in

Hi
I have a Tecra 8000 and my compamy use loads of these. We all have
problems booting CDs. Some seem to work and some don't. The thing to do
is top make a boot floppy(s) (number depends on the distribution) and
boot from that. You will find once it has booted the kernel from the
floppy the rest
Quick guess
A comma "," usually causes a delay in dialing with most modems. If you
need a longer delay you can add more commas so for example

Hi
Personally I would recommend SuSE for a complete Linux/Unix newbie.
It has a very easy install with good hardware autodetection and has
probably the best manuals I have ever seen with a Linux distribution.
Its probably the easiest distro to get you up and running with say KDE,

Hmm
Try this :
mutt -n -f ~/Mail/foobar
where foobar is a mail spool
This will bypass all the mutt config files un case they are causing the
problem. Does the index work then ?
Pat
Thats a weird problem. I have used mutt on and off for four years and
never seen that. However it is a console app and so its display can get
screwed up if the console is weird or chages size (dependant on the
console being used).

Much the same experience here. Galeon renders web pages much better and
faster than Konq and the pluggins work better too.
Hi James
The Acrobat issue has fixed itself today ! Not sure why it has but it

such as Mozilla from unstable and the latest 2.4 kernel I have also done
a reboot. All of a sudden it works fine with no error messages.
