I could be wrong here. At this point, I was parsing what I had read
from several sources, but as I interpreted it, file data is included.
Mainly I just wanted to give him further ideas to factor into the
decision process, and maybe shouldn't have gone into so much detail.

both these methods.

You won't get any argument here. ;)

ISA devices.

how to correct this?
While we're on the topic, does that value ever change over the life of
the drive? Is it necessary to occasionally remeasure it?

perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").
In any case, "dpkg-reconfigure locales", as suggested by Tatsuya
Kinoshita, did fix both of these issues. Now, I still have those same
empty values for LC_CTYPE and LC_ALL, but they don't seem to have any
adverse effect.
Thanks guys!

Minicom by name.
Thanks! Now it's perfect, no need for Seyon.

I'd like to find a program to neatly communicate with my router/firewall
over a serial line. I created that box specifically without any
services, including SSH, so the only way to login is over TTYS0 (or with
a keyboard).
Right now I use Minicom, but apparently it doesn't support color -- or

I recall that during in stallion, at the dialog to specify locale, I
chose both "en_US.ISO-8559-1" and "en_US.UTF-8" (because I wasn't sure).
In any case, how do I fix this?

7;ve never noticed this
before, although I also have that irritating RTC / "char_major_10_135"
problem. Are they related? This is a stock 2.2.20 kernel, right off
Ian Eure's netinst 3.0 CD (no ReiserFS or anything, just plain vanilla,
I assume).

e information on this, maybe a better HOWTO specific
to Win2K or some real-world results? A Google search for these keywords
brings up exactly one hit, the site where that came from in the first
place.

user to get, out of the relatively-precious satellite bandwidth.
Sorry if this isn't exactly Debian-related, just my $0.02. If you want
to try to get it working just to see if you CAN, I'm all for that! :)
But for your day-to-day ISP access, I'd be wary.

nsure that
several packages on your system are of a certain revision (or higher),
an example being modutils. The above URL give you specific pointers
about where to look in the kernel source docs to make sure.

(Third attempt to send to the list, hope this works :)
Trillian hasn't been ported to Linux, but I sure hope it
does. There's a poll question on their website of "wish-list items" and
that's one of them. The Win32 0.71 version is great, and if it were
moved over, it would probably fit the bill perfectly in this case.
Maybe a few of us should goad them into making a Linux version?

the future, take a look
at 'debfoster' (and/or maybe 'deborphan'). The former apparently keeps
track of this sort of thing for you, so you can get rid of leftovers. I
have it installed, but haven't used it yet... I just found it a couple
days ago while rummaging through dselect.

But I would opine that ANY
audio-via-USB scheme is going to be a pain, including in Windows, much
less Linux. Be careful. :)

shot -- the DL is only 35 megs.
I don't know the context of the original question, since I'm not
subscribed to debian-cd, but even the plain old "floppy" method is able
to do an install off the net easily, at least if you've got a
cablemodem. As for installing via PPP, I haven't heard any success
stories.

I have mine set to an even hour, which takes up less space
in the log but lets me know things are still running okay
(which is useful if you're watching it on TTY12 or what have
you).
