This isn't exactly an answer/solution.  But in the future, take a look
at 'debfoster' (and/or maybe 'deborphan').  The former apparently keeps
track of this sort of thing for you, so you can get rid of leftovers.  I
have it installed, but haven't used it yet... I just found it a couple
days ago while rummaging through dselect.
