Ryan,
Just curious whether sound still emanates when you use XMMS?
I had a similar problem recently. Could get sound out of XMMS, but
couldn't adjust the tab in the volume control icon.

Thank you, all, for this very helpful discussion on installing Java and
the web plug-ins. This link,http://serios.net/content/debian/java.php,
was also very helpful as some of these steps were not particularly
intuitive. It's just this sort of public discussion and feedback that

Thanks for the correction John. I guess I was using "emulate" in a
loose, imprecise way. You do indeed have to have a license for Windows
which is set up on a virtual machine on your linux box.

Mike,
I don't know if this has already been suggested, but you can emulate the
whole Windows XP (or any other brand of WIndows) environment with a
proprietary package called VMware. Unfortunately, it does a cost a
small sum, ~$200. I actually bought it recently thinking that it would

Success! I finally have sound! Since others may be having or have had

Hello,
I am having a terrible problem getting any sound out of my speakers
other than a very loud squeal when I try to play any music including
streams. The sound card, a Voyetra something or other is recognized
during boot up and I have a volume contral icon which I can adjust but I

Dear Michael,
Just this past weekend I managed to install sid on a Dell Dimension 8100
desktop (about 2-3 years old now) using a net-install CD which I downloaded
from the net (http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/daily/). It
installed pretty easily. I do remember that there were a numbe

Allen,
Having just installed sarge on my laptop I think I may be able to help.
I initially attempted to install sarge from a cd I burned using jigdo.
This failed repeatedly...I kept getting corrupted media messages part
way through the installation, though it would boot nicely. So, I went
